FAQS

You asked, we answered! We’ve rounded up answers to your HVAC FAQs below:

  • How often do I need to have my furnace serviced?

Your furnace needs to be serviced once a year, generally in the fall prior to the onset of colder weather.

  • How long should my furnace last?

A furnace is generally good for 15-20 years of service if it is maintained on a regular basis and the filter is changed every 1-3 months.

  • How often should I change my furnace filter?

Ideally, you should change the filter every month, especially in the summer months if you are running A/C.

  • How often do I need to have my AC unit serviced?

Your A/C needs to be serviced once a year. We recommend servicing your AC in the spring after the temperature has been at least 50 degrees for several days, but before you actually need it for the heat of the summer.

  • How long should my AC unit last?

An A/C unit is good for 15-20 years of service if it is maintained properly. This generally means the furnace filter is changed monthly during cooling season and the condenser is cleaned in the spring prior to the heat of the summer.

  • How do I know if I need an air purifier?

During this time of COVID-19, an air purifier that destroys bacteria, viruses, and pollen is a good idea if you or any of your family are concerned with the pandemic. Also, if you notice dust or any other pollutants on the surfaces in your home, it might be solved with an air purifier and duct cleaning.

  • How do I maintain my swamp cooler?

Your swamp cooler needs to be serviced in the spring and have the pads changed at the same time. In the fall before the first freeze, you need to make sure you have your swamp cooler winterized and drained.

  • How often should I have my air ducts cleaned?

Duct cleaning should be done at least every five years if you don’t have pets.  If you have pets and change your filter in the furnace at least every three months, then you should have your air ducts cleaned every three years.

  •  How often should I have my humidifier serviced?

Humidifiers need to be serviced and the water pad changed once a year. However, if there is a build up of calcium deposits in the drain, it should be serviced twice a year.  This is usually done at the same time as the furnace service in the fall. Never run the humidifier with the A/C in operation —  this will cause the evaporator coil to freeze up and damage the system.
